Darvish undergoes Tommy John procedure
Mar 17, 2015 - 10:28 PM Surprise, AZ (SportsNetwork.com) - The Texas Rangers announced Tuesday that staff ace Yu Darvish had successful ligament reconstruction surgery performed on his right elbow. The procedure, performed by noted sports surgeon Dr. James Andrews in Gulf Breeze, Florida, will sideline the standout right-hander for the entire 2015 season.
Darvish left his 2015 spring training debut on March 5 after just one inning after experiencing discomfort in his elbow. An MRI taken by the Rangers' medical staff the following day revealed a sprained ulnar collateral ligament that necessitated Tommy John surgery.
The All-Star hurler missed the final seven weeks of last season due to mild inflammation in his right elbow. Darvish finished the year 10-7 with a 3.06 ERA over 22 starts and struck out 182 hitters in 144 1/3 innings.
