Moyer, 49, gets spot in Rockies rotation

Mar 31, 2012 - 4:08 AM Scottsdale, AZ (Sports Network) - At 49, Jamie Moyer has not only made the major league roster of the Colorado Rockies, but the crafty left-hander has been named the team's No. 2 starter.

Rockies manager Jim Tracy announced Moyer, who was signed to a minor league contract in the offseason, would start April 7 in Houston. It'll be his first start for Colorado in his 25th major league season and a win would make him the oldest in major league history to record a victory.

Moyer is set up behind Jeremy Guthrie with Juan Nicasio, Jhoulys Chacin and Drew Pomeranz finishing out the rotation.

Moyer last pitched in 2010 for the Philadelphia Phillies, posting a 9-9 record with a 4.84 earned run average, 63 strikeouts and 20 walks in 19 starts. He had Tommy John surgery on his left elbow following the 2010 season and missed all of 2011.

He broke into the majors in 1986 with the Chicago Cubs and won a World Series title with the Phillies in 2008.

The Rockies are his eighth team in his career. Moyer is 267-204 in his career with a 4.24 ERA, 2,405 strikeouts and 1,137 walks.
