Juve eliminate Genoa, set up Torino clash

Dec 20, 2017 - 10:34 PM Paulo Dybala ended a scoring drought when he netted the opener, and then set up the second from Gonzalo Higuain in Juventus' 2-0 home defeat of Genoa.

The win sets up a city derby with Torino in the quarter-finals of the Italian Cup.

The Argentina striker controlled deftly outside the box and found the low left corner in the 42nd minute, stunning Eugenio Lamanna who had earlier saved from Douglas Costa and Federico Bernardeschi.

Dybala started as the lone striker after several appearances as substitute.

He scored 12 goals early in the Serie A season, but had a dull spell since netting his last in mid-November.

"These games can be tricky," Higuain said. "The result was not big but it was important to advance, now we prepare Saturday's game [at home to Roma in the league].

"Dybala was not having a bad moment. Maybe he started off too strongly. When you do not score you are under fire and when you score you want to get more. I hope he finds a balance."

The Bianconeri, who won the last three trophies, will host Torino on January 3.

Il Toro upset Roma 2-1 earlier Wednesday with Lorenzo De Silvestri and Simone Edera on target and goalkeeper Vanja Milinkovic-Savic saving a penalty at Rome's Stadio Olimpico.

Atalanta beat Sassuolo 2-1 in Bergamo in the day's other game.
