Runner finishes marathon, dies
Nov 3, 2008 - 3:30 AM NEW YORK (Ticker) -- A 58-year-old runner who had just completed the New York City Marathon on Sunday, collapsed at the finish line and died at a local hospital, according to a report from Newsday.Carlos Jose Gomes, of Sao Paolo, Brazil, went into cardiac arrest upon completing the 26.2-mile race was pronounced dead at Lenox Hill Hospital at 5:20 p.m. EST.
Marilson Gomes dos Santos won the men's race, reclaiming the title he first won in 2006. The Brazilian negotiated the course in 2 hours, 8 minutes and 43 seconds.
In the women's race, Paula Radcliffe of Great Britain won the race for the third time.
