Eagles re-sign Yeo until 2023 AFL season
Dec 15, 2017 - 8:38 AM West Coast utility Elliot Yeo says he's looking forward to being part of the AFL club's new era after re-signing for another five years.Yeo was due to come out of contract at the end of next season but his new deal ties him to the Eagles until the end of 2023.
The 24-year-old starred for West Coast across half-back last season, winning All-Australian honours as well as the club's best and fairest award.
Yeo looms as a key figure in West Coast's rebuilt midfield next season following the retirements of Matt Priddis and Sam Mitchell.
"It's a really exciting time for the club with so much happening as well as and a very different looking squad," Yeo said.
"We've brought in a lot of new players over the last couple of years and I look forward to being a part of the new era.
"It's always a bit sad to see blokes like Pridda, Buts (Sam Butler), Mitch and Drew (Petrie) retire.
"But we have some really talented young players ready to come through and now as one of the more senior players I am looking forward to taking on a bit more responsibility."
Yeo played 27 games for Brisbane over two seasons before moving to West Coast at the end of 2013.
He played a key role during the Eagles' charge to the 2015 grand final but was inconsistent in 2016.
However, he produced a career-best campaign last season, playing predominantly across half back, along with some stints through the midfield.
His 190cm, 87kg frame makes him ideal fit in West Coast's rejigged midfield for 2018, especially if ruckman Nic Naitanui makes a successful return from a knee injury.
