Eagle Jetta suffers calf setback in AFL
Dec 20, 2017 - 7:26 AM West Coast coach Adam Simpson says he isn't worried about Lewis Jetta's calves despite the speedster suffering another minor setback.Jetta will be put on ice until after the Christmas break after tweaking one of his calves last week at training.
The former Swan has suffered several calf injuries during his two years at the Eagles, but Simpson doesn't expect the problem to keep resurfacing in 2018.
"Just a tweak of the calf, so we'll put him on ice now and, after Christmas, we should have him back pretty quick," Simpson said.
"We do push the players to the line with endurance and running, so you do lose a couple here or there.
"He was the guy who didn't get across the line this year. But we're not too worried.
"He has had a couple of niggles with his calf since he's been at the club so we're looking at that.
"He hasn't got massive calves, so we'll try and work out what the issue has been. But he's as fit as he's ever been so he'll be back in a couple of weeks."
Simpson also dismissed concerns surrounding star ruckman Nic Naitanui, who is still being held out of some pre-season drills.
Naitanui hasn't played since tearing the anterior cruciate ligament in his left knee in August, 2016.
In October, the 27-year-old had a minor clean-up operation to trim cartilage that had been causing him pain.
Naitanui was expecting to join in this week at full training.
But Simpson said with the Christmas break looming, the club would wait until January before unleashing him.
"It would be pretty silly to put him in full training, full contact, two days before we break up for Christmas," Simpson said.
"I'm not quite sure what the messaging has been but he's right on schedule.
"He had a bit of a clean-up at the end of the season and there's been no hiccups. It's all been part of the plan to get him into training as we go.
"We've got, I'd say, 20 players who come in and out of drills, and Nic's just one of those guys."
Josh Kennedy (lower leg), Elliot Yeo (hip) and Scott Lycett (shoulder) are others still on limited duties.
