BC wins West with rout of Als
Nov 6, 2011 - 6:10 AM Vancouver, BC (Sports Network) - Travis Lulay threw three of his four touchdown passes to Andrew Harris, leading the British Columbia Lions to the West Division title with a convincing 43-1 victory over the Montreal Alouettes in the CFL's regular season finale. The win, the club's 10th in 11 games, gave the Lions an 11-7 record, good for a three-way tie atop the division with Calgary and Edmonton. BC, which started the season 0-5, gets the first-round bye via the tiebreaker, securing its first home playoff game since 2007.
The loss dropped the Alouettes to 10-8 and into second place in the East Division. They had a chance at overtaking Winnipeg for the top spot, but will now host Hamilton in the East semifinals.
Lulay completed 19-of-30 passes for 280 yards and an interception and added 51 yards on the ground. Harris finished with 74 yards on five catches.
Anthony Calvillo threw for just 63 yards on 9-of-17 efficiency in defeat.
Sean Whyte's single on the game's first possession gave Montreal the lead.
BC dominated the remaining 55 minutes, starting with Harris hauling in touchdown passes of 11 and 33 yards in the first quarter.
Lulay found Shawn Gore for a seven-yard score in the second, and Paul McCallum's 27-yard field goal made it 24-1 at halftime.
Lulay and Harris again connected in the third, this time on a seven-yard TD hookup, and McCallum added field goals of 38, 32, 18 and 32 yards to cap the scoring.
Game Notes
There had never been more than a two-way tie for the CFL's best overall record...BC's 11 wins are the fewest by the overall leader since the 18-game schedule was adopted in 1986...Geroy Simon had a game-high 107 yards on five receptions for BC.
